Devon Sexual Health clinics provide comprehensive HIV care in line with British HIV Association (BHIVA) guidelines and standards of care, including:

  • Routine monitoring and long-term HIV management
  • Care in specialist circumstances, such as:
    • Severe immunosuppression
    • Polypharmacy
    • Pregnancy
  • Inpatient support and management of both HIV-related and non-HIV-related illnesses
  • Integrated sexual and reproductive health care

Devon Sexual Health clinics also have well-established links with local services, including:

  • Psychological support
  • Peer support and advocacy services
  • Renal medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Neurology
  • Hepatology

This allows them to coordinate your care effectively and ensure you have access to the support you need.

Your first appointment is a chance for the clinics to get to know you and understand your needs. They want you to feel comfortable, listened to and supported.

At your appointment, they may:

  • Talk with you about your health, HIV history and any current treatment
  • Review or arrange blood tests to monitor your HIV and overall health
  • Discuss your medications and answer any questions you have
  • Talk about your physical, sexual and emotional wellbeing
  • Agree a care plan with you and arrange follow-up appointments if needed

You do not need to prepare anything special for your appointment at a Devon Sexual Health clinic. If you have details of your current HIV treatment or recent blood test results, it would be helpful for you to bring them, but this is not essential.

Everything you discuss with the clinic is confidential.

You are welcome to ask questions at any point. The clinic team is there to support you and work with you to manage your HIV in a way that suits your life.
