16 Days of Action
posted by: Susan Mills
16 Days of Action is an annual campaign which takes place between 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and 10 December (World Human Rights Day).
It’s a global call from organisations and individuals for an end to gender-based violence, and for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
In Devon it is estimated that 35,000 people are victims of domestic abuse each year*.
84% of referrals to the domestic abuse support service are for women and nationally, 74% of victims of domestic abuse related crimes are women.
Experiences of domestic abuse not only touch the life of the person directly affected, they also impact on family, friends and communities.
To support the global #16daysofaction campaign, organisations and community groups across Devon will be hosting a range of events and activities to help bring together communities and shine a light on the local support available to victims and survivors.
Alongside, there’s a social media campaign, which you can follow via 16 Days of Action Devon | Facebook or by searching #16DaysDevon.
